A section of Members of Parliament from Western Kenya have endorsed Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya for the Deputy President position in the 2027 general elections.

While unclear who will be his running mate, the MPs led by Khwisero MP Christopher Aseka and Ikolomani MP Benard Shinali, said the Western region must actively pursue top leadership positions in the country.

They said Oparanya has consistently demonstrated strong leadership qualities, making him well-suited for a high-ranking national role.

The leaders collectively insisted that Oparanya must be actively involved in key national discussions, arguing that the Mulembe community, given its substantial numbers, deserves a significant voice in shaping the country’s future.

CS Oparanya has been a key player in Kenya's political arena for years, with his political journey in 2002 when he was elected as the Member of Parliament for Butere Constituency.

He held this position for a decade, actively contributing to national development.

In 2008, the late President Mwai Kibaki appointed him as the Minister for Planning and Vision 2030, a role he served in until the conclusion of Kibaki’s second term in 2012.

Oparanya then transitioned to county leadership, becoming Kakamega County’s first governor following the 2013 general elections, serving from 2013 to 2022.
